Lata Mangeshkar, an Indian nightingale, turns 91 today. The great vocalist, who has had a long and illustrious career in backup singing, began her professional career when she was just 13 years old. 1) Lata Mangeshkar's mother Shevanthi was his father Dinanath Mangeshkar's second wife. His first wife, Narmada, was Lata's maternal aunt, and she died soon after they married.
Dinanath married Shevanthi in 1927, after she died.
2) The singer is her parents' firstborn child. Meena Bhosle, Asha Bhosle, Usha Bhosle, and Hridaynath Bhosle are her four siblings.
3) Dinanath, her father, was a classical singer and a stage actor. She was introduced to the art of music at a young age as a result of this.
4) Lata was given the name Hema at birth, but her name was later changed to Lata after a character named Latika in her father's play Bhaaw Bandhan.
5) While her singing ability is well-known, Lata also sang in one of her father's plays when she was five years old.
6) Although Lata spent the majority of her adult life in Mumbai, she was born and spent 16 years of her childhood in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.
7) Lata recorded her debut song for the Marathi film Kiti Hasaal in 1942, but it was never published because it was deleted from the final cut.

9) On January 27, 1963, at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi, Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru was brought to tears by Lata's patriotic song Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon. The song was written in memory of the soldiers who died in the conflict of 1962.
10) Lata considers music director Ghulam Haider to be her Godfather since, according to Lata, Ghulam had entire faith in her ability.
